Compost Tumblers Produces Black Gold

Gardening is your hobby and you just love to grow flowers, vegetables, or herbs in your garden then the best way to produce a healthy organic plant is by using compost. For gardeners black and rich fertile soil is Black Gold . The chemical fertilizers we get in the market are harmful to our health and also to the environment. But composting process is cheap, where the use of organic waste matters are made. By composting we produce a rich organic manure and it also helps to make the environment clean by recycling the wastes. The streets remain less cluttered with the litter. With less use of garbage cans and more use of compost bins gives a clean environment.

It is up to you to decide whether you want to buy a compost bin or a compost tumbler. If you do not want to buy one then make a compost pile at the end of your garden. The garden wastes like leaves, grass, weeds, stems, woody chips etc. and kitchen wastes like fruit skins, vegetable peels, egg shells etc. are used to prepare a compost mulch. The four ingredients that make your composting faster are air, water, nitrogen and carbon.

The decomposition of green soft matter takes place fast, but the weeds and hard woody chips are left behind which takes time to decompose, so add more green leaves, and see that the mixture does not get soggy. In a tumbler the design should be chosen such that the extra liquid formed during the process is collected and not drained out. So add some dry soil to absorb this nutrient liquid. This is an advantage of compost prepared in a compost tumbler.

While in a compost pile mixing the same type of ingredients compost is also produced in say about a month just as much time taken in a compost tumbler. But the mixing is to be done manually with a pitchfork, while in tumblers turning it with handles provided makes it most beneficiary. Also tumblers are clean, tight lids keep away rodents and pests, odor free. While compost piles are an invitation to rats and pests which litter the place and make it messy. Sometimes the odor and pests from the compost pile can irritate the neighborhood, but tumblers will be a safer option to be chosen. These enclosed tumblers retain their moisture and so do not require water frequently.

Different types of tumblers are found in the market in different sizes, shapes and color.

1 ) A horizontal axle made of wood or metal is fitted in the centre to a vertically mounted drum. This axle also helps to break and mix the matter when the handle is turned. They have doors on both ends. So compost can be emptied fast in a bucket.

2 ) Drums which have a round base and can be rolled with the help of rollers. You can use your hands or feet to turn them. But as they are seated on the ground removing the compost should be done with a shovel.

3 ) Drums are mounted on a high framework. A crank assembly, helps you to operate or turn the drum smoothly. Because the drums are raised high the emptying part is easy.

4 ) A composter with two chambers are also available. When you fill one chamber of the composter and it is in the final process you can start accumulating your waste in the other chamber without having to waiting for t the first chamber to finish its composting.

Composting tumblers can be also used by persons having backache or joint pains.
